R9HSA Solutions Webinar: Early Numeracy Skill Acquisition – Counting, Cardinality, and Comparison

November 21 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm PST

Free

Presented by – Dr. Brian Mowry, Senior Math Author for Frog Street Pre-K, Threes, Toddler and Infant Curriculum

Counting, cardinality, and comparison are essential skills that underscore the young child’s attainment and formal understanding of whole numbers, numerical relationships, and initial place value concepts introduced in first grade and beyond (Fry, Baroody, Burchinal, Carver, Jordan, & McDowell, 2013). This webinar will focus on the developmental progression of these counting and comparing skills as they occur within the young child’s informal activity working with and solving problems involving whole numbers. The presenter will provide specific suggestions for teacher-directed small group lessons/centers and child-initiated explorations that will foster the preschooler’s attainment of of these skills as specified in the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework. Questions and discussion are encouraged from participants during the webinar.
