  • R9HSA Solutions Webinar: Helping Young children to BEFRIEND: Supporting Strong Emotions and Challenging Behaviors

    Tue, 12/19/2017

The numbers of young children who experience poor socio-emotional development has been on the rise, often resulting in challenging behaviors.  Early behavioral problems among young children are predictive of later conduct disorders. Our goal in this webinar is to learn how to teach and guide young children in acquiring the ability to identify their emotions, label them, learn how to manage their strong emotions, and how to be self-aware so they can learn to problem solve before they end up in a meltdown. Teaching BEFRIEND (Breathe, Express Emotions, Resolve, Implement the solution, Evaluate, Negotiate and Debrief/Discuss) strategies to young children can help them learn to use them in times of need and rely on these strategies to help them cope with frustration and temper.   Presenter Dr. Shulamit Ritblatt is a Professor of the Child & Family Development at San Diego State University. She received her Ph.D. in Child and Family Development from Florida State University in 1993. Prior to coming to the USA in 1989, she worked as a clinical child psychologist in Israel after completion of her master’s in Clinical Child Psychology from Tel Aviv University. Dr. Ritblatt is an expert in the field of social emotional development and early childhood mental health. She developed academic programs to prepare the early childhood workforce to support emotion and behavior...
