Arizona
Head Start Enrollment 17,000+
For the Grand Canyon state with a population of 7.17 million, Arizona’s Head Start bridges a huge gap in needs among at-risk families. Despite being a mostly rural state where one-quarter of the land mass is made up of Indian reservations, two-thirds of the Head Start programs in Arizona are located in the larger cities.
Head Start’s comprehensive approach of serving the whole child and the whole family provides a total funded enrollment in Arizona of more than 22,000 children—with adult enrollment totals of more than 11,000 in adult education, workforce training, parenting and dual-language classes.
