Why

Education coaches have long been a part of HS/EHS programming. However, coaching isn’t just for education staff. All positions throughout a program can and should be recipients of coaching. Research demonstrates that coaching increases employee engagement and retention.

  • A study by the International Coaching Federation (ICF) found that 86% of companies that invested in coaching reported a return on investment (ROI). Furthermore, 62% of employees in organizations that provide coaching felt highly engaged and committed to their work (ICF, 2016).
  • According to a report by the Human Capital Institute, 60% of employees who receive coaching say they are more likely to stay with their organization, leading to a significant decrease in turnover and associated costs (HCI, 2018).

Strong and effective coaches are important for Head Start and Early Head Start programs because it helps educators and all staff engage more intensely, improve their skills and practices in early childhood education and agency operations ensuring better outcomes for children and families.

Impact

Here’s the impact of coaching that programs will reap:

  • Higher engagement and retention: Employees are more likely to stay with organizations that offer coaching, reducing turnover.
  • Increased productivity: Coaching boosts overall performance and productivity, leading to higher child and family outcomes.
  • Leadership development: Coaching enhances leaders’ decision-making abilities, improving their effectiveness and impact on the organization.
  • Reduced stress: Coaching contributes to employee well-being by reducing stress and promoting better mental health.
  • Better teamwork: Coaching encourages collaboration and communication, fostering more effective and cohesive teams.
  • Strong ROI: Coaching provides a high return on investment by improving various metrics, from productivity to engagement.
