Region 9’s 2018 Western States Leadership Conference has been expanded to offer a variety of experiences for education staff, program leaders and program partners.  You may attend just one element or a package that best fits your agency’s training priorities.

All activities will be held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Phoenix Tempe.  Located just minutes from the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, this location presents easy access for attendees from all area of Arizona, and throughout Region 9.  The Double Tree offers airport shuttles and on-site parking is free.  Click the DESTINATION tab above to reserve your room.  Reservations must be made by January 22, 2018

Welcoming Remarks by Tempe’s Mayor Mark Mitchell

Peggy Daly Pizzo

She is the author of the book “Teaching and Leading with Emotional Intelligence: A Dilemma-Based Casebook for Early Care and Education”. In this book, she provides dilemma-based teaching cases that teachers and early childhood leaders can analyze and discuss to build problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Angel Barrios

Angel Barrios is the Executive/Program Director for the Institute for Human and Social Development’s Head Start/Early Head Start Program of San Mateo County. Angel is actively involved in the work of numerous community agencies.  She served as a member of the Board of Directors of several organizations and a former commissioner for First 5 of San Mateo County (Prop. 10). A strong advocate of interagency collaboration, she has been instrumental in the development of family support programs for early childhood programs, community needs assessment, child care strategic plan and priority, and Kindergarten transition plan. 

Closing Joint Session – Wednesday February 14, 2018

Jan Len

Jan Len is the Regional Program Manager for the Region IX Office of Head Start. Region IX is comprised of the States of Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada; the Trust Territories of American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands, and Guam; and the Republic of Palau. The Region IX team collaborates with the Offices of Grants Management and Child Care to fund, oversee, and provide technical assistance to support programs in achieving high quality services to children and families.

Arizona Head Start Association General Membership Meeting – Thursday February 15, 2018

The day will begin with the General Membership Meeting at 10:00 AM.  This session will cover a variety of topics, and reports from partners.  After the Networking Luncheon, the Committee Meeting will occur.  The day ends with a Board of Directors Meeting.
