Early Head Start - Family Support Hawaii
I have been a member of the Region 9 Head Start Association Board of Directors for a little over two years now. I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into, and to be honest, sometimes I still feel like I’m not sure what I’m doing. But it has been a blessing and an honor to be able to serve with an amazing group of people who all share a vision and passion for the work that we do. Region 9 Head Start has made a difference in my life for so many reasons.
I get to be a part of a great team of people that genuinely want to work toward improving the lives of the staff that we work with and the families we serve. Being a part of the Region 9 board allows me to have a voice for my staff and for our families at the regional level. Those of us on the Region 9 board discuss our ideas, our challenges, our solutions, and many issues vital to the communities we serve. Through these discussions, we work together to help elevate each and every one of our programs. The work that Region 9 does is inspiring and motivates me to push myself to be the best person and leader that I can be, and to help my staff reach for that same goal as well.
In addition, being part of the Head Start community has motivated me to return back to school to up my degree. Region 9 has hosted a scholarship fund for the last few years, and last year I was honored to be a recipient of one of the scholarships. It’s not just the work that we do here in Region 9 that prompts me to keep moving forward; it’s also our support and camaraderie that stimulates me to press on.
I have been to management workshops, not leadership training. This has totally changed my perspective and encouraged me to propel forward in developing my skills.
I am honored and humbled to be a recipient of the Region 9 Head Start Association’s Legacy Scholarship. The scholarship helped me get one step closer to achieving my goal of becoming a Head Start Director.
I took part in The disproportionate impact of COVID 19, and how to provide “real” support for black/brown children and families and I just want to say this was an amazing webinar. I hope we can look forward to further conversation on this topic.
Thank you so much for making events like this! I really enjoyed and learned so much teaching strategies to implement STEM in the classroom.
The HR Network was an excellent opportunity to network and learn the best practices from other HR professionals within Head Start programs. You will be amazed by the level of talent and experience of the participants.
The Summer Camp training was powerful and inspiring! Each presenter was very engaging, it’s hard to even pick a favorite session!
The Leadership Challenge training was very relevant to my work as a Head Start leader! Great facilitation; stayed with the program yet allowed time for individual and small group reflections.
